If you’re interested in pursuing a career in Cisco technologies or acquiring a Cisco career certification, all paths begin with ICND1 v3.0 - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices, Part 1.
Review the Cisco Career Certification map and you’ll notice that the CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician) certification is at the center. And the starting point for CCENT is ICND1.
ICND1 is either required or recommended for each Cisco technology path. Even where it is only recommended, the knowledge of basic Cisco networking technologies gained in ICND1 is instrumental to your Cisco technology skills acquisition and certification success.
What will you learn?
ICND1 provides a foundational understanding of core Cisco routing and switching technologies and other advanced networking solutions. You will learn to install, operate, configure and verify a basic IPv4 and IPv6 network including configuring a LAN switch, configuring an IP router, managing network devices, and identifying basic security threats. The goal of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, and operate a small- to medium-sized network.
This course will enable you to:
- Prepare for the entry-level CCENT certification.
- Obtain a foundational understanding of core routing and switching technologies.
- Develop basic routing and switching networking skills.
- Understand the interactions and network functions of firewalls, controllers and access points.
- Support Cisco network deployments and maintain an ongoing operational network.
Who should attend ICND1?
The primary focus of ICND1 is to prepare network engineers and administrators to understand and manage Cisco network deployments. Therefore, ICND1 is recommended for all typical networking job roles and functions, including administrators, engineers, designers, analysts and specialists. But anyone pursuing a career in any Cisco technology will benefit from ICND1 and a basic understanding of Cisco networking technologies.
Once you complete ICND1 you will be immediately ready to challenge the CCENT certification exam and validate your foundational understanding of Cisco networking technologies. CCENT certification or similar networking skills and experience is required or recommended for all other Cisco technology certifications.
However, you can continue on the Cisco routing and switching track, by combining ICND1 and ICND2, you will be ready to pursue the CCNA Routing and Switching certification. Or you can take the accelerated path and attend the CCNAX Boot Camp, acquiring the knowledge and skills of ICND1 and ICND2 in a one-week, concentrated, exam preparation course.
Cisco technology areas where ICND1 knowledge or CCENT certification is required includes Security, Wireless, and Network Design. Cisco technology areas where ICND1 knowledge or CCENT certification is recommended and highly beneficial include Collaboration, Data Center, Cloud, Industrial/IoT, Cyber Ops, and Service Provider.
ICND1 includes Cisco Training Exclusives
Cisco Training Exclusives is a unique program that provides tools and resources to enhance and ensure your mastery of the concepts and technologies taught during your course.
Starting with a recording of your course, you can hit rewind and review any material you didn’t grasp entirely while in training. Or get a general review of everything covered in the course while you prepare for the CCENT or CCNA Routing and Switching exams.
You can use the IT Skills Video On-Demand Library to ensure your mastery of the material. With over 40,000 titles you can re-take a portion of the class you just completed, you can preview the next course in your selected technology track, or you can get a taste of an entirely new technology area. Again, with over 40,000 titles, you will find virtually every Cisco technology covered in addition to many non-Cisco technologies like Microsoft, VMware, AWS and more.
What’s better to prepare for a certification exam than a free practice exam? The complimentary Boson practice exam will enable you to prepare for the certification exam with questions and pacing similar to what you will experience in the actual exam. With 12 months of access, you will have plenty of time to prepare and practice.
How will ICND1 impact your job and career?
As the stepping stone to every Cisco technology track, ICND1 will deliver a highly transferrable skill set. By understanding the inner workings of a Cisco network, you will be prepared to successfully deploy and manage Cisco networking technologies and services, you will be ready to branch out to related technology areas like wireless networking or network design, and you will be ready to acquire skills in tangential technology areas like cloud, collaboration, or data center.
Most importantly, with a foundational understanding of Cisco networking technologies you will be poised to contribute with emerging Cisco technologies like software-defined networking, programmable networks, and intent-based networks.
