Why get certified in Security+?

This guide provides an overview of the Security+ certification, including who the certification is for, how to earn and maintain it, the positive impact that it will have on your career, and options for advancement following your Security+ certification.

Security is a constant and ever-growing concern. With cyberattacks on the rise and costing victims billions of dollars, protecting organizations from hackers, phishing attacks and other malicious behavior is more critical than ever. Experts with solid security skills are necessary to ensure that organizations are prepared for and protected against risks, and that they can respond appropriately when incidents arise.

In 2020, the annual Global Knowledge IT Skills and Salary Report confirmed this, showing that more than half of IT professionals listed cybersecurity as a priority for their team. This is more than any other priority reported.

Security+ is also a DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification and meets DoD 8140/8570 training requirements for the positions at IAT Level II or IAM Level I for those working for a contractor or entity of the U.S. Department of Defense – including military and defense agencies – that provide cybersecurity functional services for the Department of Defense. Security+ is chosen by more organizations than any other certification to substantiate these skills.
