Microsoft Teams has more than 20 million daily active users. The platform has grown since it last revealed the amount of users in July - from 13 million to 20 million. Why do people like working with Microsoft Teams so much? Read the article to find out.

Microsoft is ending support for Skype for Business in 2021 and it's replacing Skype with Microsoft Teams. Skype only had chat and video functionality, but Teams is much more than that. It's a digital workplace for organizations.

All communications in one platform

You can use Teams to organize meetings, chat with each other, for your video calls, you can use it as a planner and see if the members of your team are making progress with their tasks. That's not where it ends however - because you can integrate your other Microsoft Office 365 applications in Teams, the possibilities are endless.

In this article you'll read what Teams can do for your organization. There is a reason over 20 million people choose to use Microsoft Teams every day. What can Microsoft's digital workspace do for you? Have a look at this video to find out.

Insight

Teams offers great insights in what tasks your Team is doing and which ones they need to get started on. That works as follows.

The administrator of your Teams-environment can create several Teams. For example: as a marketeer you can be part of the marketing team, but you can also be part of the customer service team. The administrator can create different groups for these teams in Teams.

In these Teams, every user gets their own 'bucket'. In these buckets, you'll find your tasks. Your manager has the overview and can check who is doing what and if a task is taking too long, he can ask your co-workers to help you out.

Planner

Planner is an application in Teams you can use to schedule your own tasks. In Planner, your management can see what you're working on and what's still coming up but it's also a great overview for you on all your tasks. By looking at Planner you know what you're still working on, what you have to do and which tasks you've finished.

Because of the overview in Planner, you make sure you and your co-worker aren't working on the same task at the same time, but it's also easier to see where you could work together. With the digital work environment Teams offers, you find new and refreshing ways to work on your projects.

Meetings

Because Microsoft Teams is ending support for Skype for Business, Teams is taking over the role of Skype. In Teams you can call individuals but you can also set up meeting for big groups. If you need to give a presentation for example, Teams gives you the ability to share your screen with the rest of the group.

During Ignite Microsoft announced a partnership with Cisco. By using Cisco Webex, you can use different video-applications to connect to Teams-meetings, media-outlet Techzine writes. This means you can also join a Teams meeting if you use technology by Zoom or Cisco.

User-friendly

Teams is very user-friendly. It becomes clear very quickly where you have to go for certain applications or functionality. There's a tab for your different Teams, your chat, calendar, phone and your files. The extra applications you add to Teams yourself - like Planner - you'll be able to find under the little dots in your navigation.

The interface of Teams is instantly recognizable for users that have worked with Microsoft products before.

Teams connects well to your existing applications

Your existing Office 365 applications connect excellently with Teams. If you've got a Word-document you'd like to edit alongside a co-worker, that's possible. You just upload the document in Teams and start editing it together. Teams saves your changes automatically.

Microsoft has decided to integrate the applications of the Microsoft Power Platform in Teams too. You can now use Power BI, Power Automate (formerly known as Microsoft Flow) and PowerApps in Teams too.
