The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) is a respected certification covering essential project management concepts, from planning and risk management to communication and teamwork. The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) course builds a solid foundation in project management principles, helping you develop key skills and a deeper understanding of effective practices. Ideal for experienced project managers, it sharpens your awareness, strengthens your approach, and equips you to manage projects with confidence and clarity.

The syllabus is based on the APM Body of Knowledge, which encompasses all areas of project management including strategic and commercial considerations, together with the technical, organisational and people management skills required to participate effectively in project management.

 

There is mandatory 10 hours of online pre-course work, that should be completed prior to course attendance.  As well as 40 hours of additional study after completion of the course.

Course Prerequisites

Attendees should meet the following prerequisites:

  • It is recommend that you have a minimum of two years relevant practical experience of project management.

By the time you attend this course you must have completed all the mandatory online pre-course work. The APM recommend between 70-80 hours preparation for the exam, the online pre-course is designed to take approximately ten  hours to complete. In addition, whilst attending your course there will also be examination preparation evening work and a recommended further 40 hours of additional online learning after completing the course.

Test Certification

Exams are taken online via remote proctor. Two weeks prior to the course an exam voucher will be issued. You will then be able to book a suitable time after your virtual classroom event has finished to undertake your exam.

Note: You are responsible for booking your own exam(s). 

Exam Format

The exam is 2.5 hours long with an optional 30-minute break. It will test your project management knowledge through four new question types: 

  • Multiple response (20 questions, each worth 1 mark) 
  • Select from the list (5 questions, each worth 2 marks) 
  • Short response (5 questions, each worth 2 marks) 
  • Long response (10 questions, each worth 5 marks) 

APM recommends a minimum of 75 hours of learning to ensure you are fully prepared for the exam.
