What is so radically different about the new Microsoft exams?

Frank van de Laarschot

Microsoft has introduced a different way of questioning in the new exams. The new exams consist of more than just standard multiple choice questions.

Instead, the new exams test what the candidate can do, instead of what he knows. This method of testing is called 'performance-based testing'.

Performance based testing

In a performance-based test an examination candidate is confronted with a virtualized infrastructure. In this infrastructure he must preform a couple of tasks succesfully.

Other knowledge is often also required

In the new Azure exams, candidates must build or modify configurations. In order to be able to successfully complete these assignments knowledge of for example PowerShell can be required. It's important to prepare yourself well for the exam.

Performance based testing can take more time

This new way of testing can take more time. It's important to keep an eye on the time during the exam. The participants we spoke to about these exams indicate that, much more than before, they needed the full amount of time to complete this exam.

We wish you good luck with your next exam!
