Global Knowledge has expanded its Kubernetes curriculum. Read this article to know which training courses you can follow and which certifications you can acquire.

Kubernetes—the open-source platform for containerized workloads and services—is becoming increasingly popular. According to the American TechRepublic, the demand for applicants with Kubernetes experience is continuously increasing. That’s why Global Knowledge has expanded its Kubernetes portfolio with new training courses and the possibility to certify yourself.

A great way to verify your Kubernetes knowledge is with a certification. You can choose two paths: you can certify yourself as an Administrator / (DevOps) Engineer or as a Developer.

This is illustrated in the following schema.

Kubernetes

In this article, you’ll get to know what you will learn in each training, which follow-up training courses you can take, and which exams you can take for certifications. We have divided the training courses into three levels: Introduction, Professional (Professional and Advanced.

Introduction level

Introduction to Kubernetes

During this one-day training, you learn the basics of Kubernetes. Kubernetes was developed to run containers on a large scale in the cloud. During this training, you will discover how that works.

You will be introduced to Helm, which supports in managing your Kubernetes environment, and learn how to work with Ingress Controller.

Prerequisites

Before starting this training, it’s good to know how to work with Ubuntu Command-Line. You must also have knowledge of bash, Linux commands, and private and public keys.

Follow-up courses

After Introduction to Kubernetes, you can follow the Kubernetes CKA Professional training (the Administrator / Engineer track) or the Kubernetes CKAD Professional training (the Developer track).

Professional level

Kubernetes CKA Professional

The Kubernetes CKA Professional training is a combination of a Kubernetes Fundamentals training course and the training for Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) theory exam.

Therefore, this three-day training is ideal if you want to obtain your Kubernetes Certification right away. The training is hands-on. As a participant, you have your own bare-metal cluster. You’ll learn through exercises and examples how to maintain Kubernetes as a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).

Prerequisites

For this training you need basic knowledge of Linux command-line (Bash, Linux Basic Commands), and Private and Public Keys.

Follow-up course

After this training, you can follow the CKA Exam Prep training, so that you are well prepared for your CKA exam.

Ready for your exam? You can book it via the Cloud Native Computing Foundation on this page. The exam can be taken online.

Kubernetes CKAD Professional

The Kubernetes CKAD Professional training is an Introduction to Kubernetes with focus on developers and excellent preparation for the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) exam.

The three-day training is hands-on; as a participant, you have your own bare-metal cluster on which you perform the exercises. In this way, you will discover how Kubernetes works and how you can use it in practice. The training is a good way to specialize as a Kubernetes  developer.

Prerequisites

For this training you need basic knowledge of Linux command-line (Bash, Linux Basic Commands), and Private and Public Keys.

Follow-up course

After this training, you can follow the CKAD Exam Prep training to prepare yourself even better for the exam. You can book your exam via the Cloud Native Computing Foundation on this page. The exam can be taken online.

Professional + Advanced level

This five-day Kubernetes CKA Professional + Advanced training is an opportunity to take advanced professional training. During the training, you’ll learn to manage a Kubernetes cluster through your own bare-metal cluster, which you receive before the training The first part of the training covers the Kubernetes Administrator Fundamentals and the second part consists of expert choice modules for Kubernetes Administrator. This training is suitable for System Administrators, Engineers or DevOps Engineers who are responsible for a Kubernetes cluster.

Note: this training alone is not sufficient preparation for a certification exam. We recommend you follow an Exam Prep training—either for CKAD or CKA.

Advanced level

At the highest level, you can follow a Kubernetes Advanced training. You can choose between the Kubernetes Administrator Advanced training or the Kubernetes Developer Advanced training.

Kubernetes CKA Advanced

If you have passed your CKA exam, this two-day training is the next step. During the Kubernetes CKA Advanced training, you will gain in depth knowledge about Kubernetes and learn more about setting up and managing your Kubernetes environment. The training is largely hands-on, which means you can immediately put into practice what you have learned.

The training also addresses enterprise-level choices about Kubernetes & cloud-native architecture, auditing, security, and automation.

Prerequisites

You know the architecture of Kubernetes and you have work experience as an engineer, which also means experience with programming. We work with the command line and various programming languages such as Go, Node.js, Angular, Java, Ubuntu, Debian, and CoreOS. You also need basic knowledge of Linux command-line (Bash, Linux Basic Commands), and Private and Public Keys.

Follow-up course

After this training, you don’t take an exam. You can follow the CKAD Advanced training.

Kubernetes CKAD Advanced

The Kubernetes CKAD Advanced training is the follow-up for developers who have passed their CKAD exam. This training provides an extra level of depth. As a participant, you immediately put into practice what you learn, because you already work on bare-metal clusters in the training. You deploy them to OpenShift, Tanzu, Ranger or to managed hosting such as GKE, AKS and EKS.

This training is suitable for Developers or DevOps engineers who are responsible for developing, building or rolling out solutions on Kubernetes within their organization.

Prerequisites

For this training it is important that you have experience with programming. We work with the command line and various programming languages such as Go, Node.js, Angular, Java, Ubuntu, Debian, and CoreOS.

You also need basic knowledge of Linux command-line (Bash, Linux Basic Commands), and Private and Public Keys.

Follow-up course

After this training you can follow the two-day Kubernetes CKA Advanced training. This training covers the role of an administrator within a Kubernetes environment.
