Mechelen, 15 October 2018 – Global Knowledge, the worldwide provider of IT and skills training, has appointed René Lap (40) as the director of Global Knowledge Benelux. He succeeds Piet Hompus, who will be rolling out innovations from the Dutch organization as best practices at other Global Knowledge EMEA locations over the next eighteen months.

René Lap has a long track record at Global Knowledge. He started work for the worldwide market leader in IT training as an account manager in 2006. He then progressed to the roles of Sales Manager (2007) and Benelux Sales Director (2014). He booked some major commercial successes in the latter role and has been preparing for the last year and a half to take on the job of Managing Director for the Benelux area. Before working for Global Knowledge, René Lap held various IT and sales positions, including account manager for Ingram Micro.

Global Knowledge has developed over recent years from a pure IT and management training course provider into a ‘learning partner’ – a company capable of using collaboration and innovations to provide just the right training and education for its clients. Examples of this are on-demand training courses in various learning formats and the online education platform for individual and group training courses. Global Knowledge is also increasingly able to offer organizations and their professionals individual tailored solutions by combining assessments with various online and conventional teaching methods.

“At Global Knowledge Benelux, we are benefiting from an international approach and we are completely free to put our own distinctive slant on it,” says René Lap. “That plus our educational innovations are the foundations of our success. It makes us the best at helping clients with their business transformations, which is exactly what these times demand. As the market leader in IT training, we expect above average growth for the coming years. The main reasons for that are the increase in the numbers of freelancers, who can stand out from the crowd if they’ve got certificates and have done the requisite retraining, plus the technological developments in the Cloud, cybersecurity and being agile. Both developments are driving the need for new skills and the associated training courses. I’m looking forward to getting the most out of these trends, both for our own organization and for our clients.”

“Tried and tested but an optimist through and through – that makes René my ideal successor,” says Piet Hompus. “We’ve worked together closely for the last while, so he knows exactly what is going on and is in a better position than anyone else to build on the recent success of Global Knowledge Benelux. In the meantime, I’m going to be taking the smart things we’ve implemented in the Netherlands and rolling them out in other countries. Things like our management reporting system and getting a clear picture of the skills matrix. Here in the Netherlands, we know just what skills our classroom instructors and freelancers have, and we link that to the availability, quality and price. That’s got to be done for the whole of Europe now.”
