Why VMware

Global Knowledge
  • Date: 17 December, 2018

For 20 years VMware has been using innovative software to help its customers quickly implement new technologies without disrupting their business operations. VMware makes the step to a digital organization easy. VMware's virtualization software enables organizations to securely access, manage and automate a complex (international) digital infrastructure. This gives VMware users fast and secure access to the apps and data they need to perform their work optimally, anytime, anywhere.

The core of VMware is vSphere. vSphere provides a powerful, flexible and secure foundation to accelerate the digital transformation to a hybrid cloud environment. It provides a secure and easy to automate and manage usage environment for applications and data that can be accessed anywhere.

Why switch over to VMware vSphere 6.7?

This spring VMware introduced a new version of vSphere: version 6.7. With the riseof this version, a number of improvements were implemented. The most important improvements compared to previous VMware versions are:

  • Simple and efficient management
The enhanced vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) provides an enhanced user experience through more efficient management capabilities and significant performance improvements. This delivers significant time and cost savings over previous versions of vSphere.
  • Comprehensive built-in security VMware AppDefense can be used to further secure applications running in the data center or cloud. AppDefense understands what applications are for, monitors the applications or they do what they should do and responds automatically if someone or something tries to manipulate them.
  • More support for more workloads vSphere 6.7 continues to provide customers with a universal application platform that supports new workloads, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, in-memory, cloud-native, big data and 3D graphics.
  • Seamless hybrid cloud experience The new vCenter Hybrid Linked Mode enables uniform visibility and management for different versions of vSphere running locally and in public clouds (such as VMware Cloud on AWS and IBM Cloud). This allows customers to maintain their current version of vSphere locally while enjoying the benefits of new capabilities in vSphere-based public clouds.

Some other new features in vSphere 6.7 are:

  • ESXi Single Reboot and vSphere Quick Boot This feature aims to significantly reduce patch and upgrade times by halving the number of restarts needed to one. This also skips hardware initialization steps to make restarting more efficient.
  • vSphere Persistent Memory vSphere Persisent Memory supports the next generation of storage devices that use permanent DRAM memory, also known as non-volatile dual in-line memory module (NVDIMM) devices.
  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 Support and Virtual TPM 2.0 This combination significantly improves protection and integrity for both the hypervisor and guest operating system.
