CCIE - Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert Routing and Switching
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIEŽ) certifies the expert-level skills required of network engineers to plan, prepare, operate monitor, and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructure. Professionals who achieve CCIE have demonstrated their technical skills at the highest level.
Cisco Revising CCIE R&S Certification Standards
Cisco has revised the certification requirements for CCIE R&S and published
the new v4.0 standards on the Cisco Learning Network. Exams based on the new
requirements are now available.
Step One: CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam
You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam which covers networking
concepts and some equipment commands before you are eligible to schedule the lab
exam. The written exam now includes new scenario-based questions
Step Two: CCIE Routing and Switching Lab Exam
The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and
troubleshoot the network in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within
three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab
attempt must be made within 18 months. The lab now requires hands-on
troubleshooting, in addition to configuration.
CCIE Recertification
Cisco expert level certifications (CCIE and CCDE) are valid for two years. To recertify, pass any 35x prefix, expert-level qualification exam (ie. 350-001 or 352-001) before the CCIE expiration date.
CCIEs that do not pass a qualifying exam before the recertification deadline will be placed in suspended status and their employers will be notified.
Suspended CCIEs have one year to pass the required exam before their CCIE certification becomes permanently inactive.
Inactive CCIEs lose all benefits and must pass both the written and lab exams again.
Achieving or recertifying CCIE or CCDE automatically extends your active Associate, Professional or other Expert level certification(s) up to the expiration date of the last certification achieved.
