Cisco has launched a new training initiative in conjunction with EMC to provide courseware and certifications related to today’s hottest technologies.
The education solutions focus upon cloud architecture, virtualisation, storage, data centre networking, and data science, and include resources from VMware. They are offered as bundles organised around specific disciplines and job roles, including cloud architect, systems administrator, backup and recovery, data centre network design, and data scientist.
These new offerings have clearly been developed in recognition of the ways in which transformational technologies affect not only IT systems and infrastructures but also the practitioners who are required to design, install, operate, and manage them. All of which means that there are a range of new skills and knowledge necessary in order to maximise the benefits that the technologies can deliver.
The new initiative incorporates learning paths that make it simple for IT managers and practitioners to create their own education development plans by prescribing the specific course of training required for proficiency in each discipline. For example, the Systems Administrator learning path includes the following courses:
- Cloud Infrastructure and Services
- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage
- Cisco Data Centre Unified Computing Implementation (DCUCI)
Similarly, the Data Centre Network Architect learning path is made up of the following:
- EMC Cloud Infrastructure and Services
- Cisco Data Centre Unified Fabric (DCUFD)
- Configuring Cisco Nexus Data Center (CCNDC)
Other courses include EMC’s Data Science and Big Data Analytics, and Information Storage and Management.
All courses can be purchased by the bundle or individually.
The Cisco training is delivered as instructor-led training (ILT), whilst EMC (or in some cases VMware) are delivering the EMC and VMware training as ILT. Selected courses are available for customer onsite instruction by either Cisco or EMC. Additionally, some EMC courseware is offered through EMC’s video instructor-led (VILT) training.
Jeanne Beliveau-Dunn, vice president and general manager of Learning@Cisco, said: “IT organisations must cultivate new cloud architecture skills, understand how to use big data and maintain deep domain expertise with a renewed understanding of virtualisation and technology convergence. With this offering Cisco and EMC are leading the way in transforming skills for the next generation of IT professionals.”
This view was echoed by Hatem Naguib, vice president, Alliances, at VMware who commented: “Today’s IT administrators are faced with a data centre environment that is continuously evolving. VMware, Cisco and EMC’s education offerings will empower customers to easily and efficiently obtain the skills required to leverage new virtualisation, cloud and data centre technologies for the benefit of their organisations.”
