Earning the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): Windows 8 certification proves that you have the core skills to deploy and manage Windows 8 clients. This foundational certification validates your ability to install, maintain, and support Windows 8 deployments in a real-world business context.

It confirms that you have associate-level knowledge of virtualization, configuring remote access, managing backups and recovery, managing Windows 8 using cloud services, and using the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack.

Upgrading to MCSA: Windows 8

You only need to take one upgrade exam (70-689) if you have one of the following certifications:

  • MCSA: Windows 7
  • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator
  • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician

The MCSA: Windows 8 certification will be retired July 2016. If you already have your MCSA for Windows 8, it will stay on your transcript but it will be noted as a Legacy certification.

Microsoft recommends that you have two years of experience, along with both on-premises and cloud experience, before attempting this MCSA-level Microsoft Windows 8 certification.
