This course is a combination of two courses: WDBWL - Deploying Cisco Basic Wireless LANs v1.2 and WDAWL - Deploying Advanced Cisco Wireless LANs v1.2. It includes the prerequisite e-Learning product, Defining Cisco Wireless LAN Essentials.

This course provides high-level information about the optional but recommended network management and services appliance components of a Cisco Unified Wireless Network - the Cisco Prime Infrastructure (PI) and Mobility Services Engine (MSE) - but does not provide hands-on labs and in-depth coverage of these components. The Cisco management platform and MSE are covered in more depth in a separate course: MWNPI - Managing Wireless Networks with Cisco Prime Infrastructure.

This course takes you beyond the WLAN terms, concepts, protocols, architecture, and WLAN characteristics introduced in the Defining Cisco Wireless LAN Essentials (WLE) e-Learning course. In this course, you will investigate the components, features, and deployment aspects of the system. You will have the opportunity to reinforce what you learn with hands-on labs. This course focuses on the essential network elements of a WLAN: the access points (APs) and wireless LAN controllers (WLCs).

In the WDAWL section, you will be presented with more challenging real-world deployments such as client mobility between subnets, high-client density deployments, and mesh network deployments. You will be able to make network design decisions, configure, and troubleshoot WLANs that encounter these challenges. The course is updated through Wireless LAN Controller and AP code release 8.1, which includes new in-demand features such as 802.11ac design awareness, iBeaconing, Apple 802.11v integration, AVC enhancements, FlexConnect enhancements, ease-of-use enhancements, as well as many more customer requested enhancements.

Defining Cisco Wireless LAN Essentials (WLE) (included prereq):

This training defines Wi-Fi and discusses IEEE standards and protocols. It presents the Cisco wireless LAN network architectures deployed to meet different business needs, such as autonomous, unified, FlexConnect, and converged access. You will learn about the various models of and options for access points, wireless LAN controllers, management system, policy integration, and mobility services engine, distinguishing the benefits and limitations of each in the context of real-world solutions.

The course discusses wireless security, a topic that often concerns Enterprises and Service Providers and covers the various types of authentication and encryption employed in Cisco wireless LANs. You will be prepared with information about the kinds of tools often used to plan, implement, and monitor a Cisco wireless LAN.
