Training and Certifications Impact Salaries for IT and Business Professionals, According to IT Salary Survey Conducted by Global Knowledge and TechRepublic

Cary, NC, and San Francisco, CA - March 15, 2011 - Global Knowledge, the worldwide leader in IT and business training, and TechRepublic, a leading online community for IT professionals, today announced the availability of the 2011 IT Skills and Salary Report. The report is based on input from over 12,000 IT and business professionals who responded to the companies' fourth annual IT skills and salary survey.

Among the key findings in this year's IT salary survey:

Training and Certifications Impact Salary

Professionals who took IT or business-related training during the past year earned an average of nearly $3,400 more than those who did not. In particular, professionals who had earned an IT or project management certification during the past five years earned an average of $2,720 more than their counterparts.

Salaries Held Steady in 2010

The average salary for respondents was $79,579. While that figure is down 3.1 percent from the average salary of the 2010 respondents, it is nearly eight percent higher than the $73,900 recorded in the 2008 IT salary survey. Conversely, just over half of this year's respondents reported receiving a raise, up from 43 percent in last year's study but down significantly from 70 percent in 2009.

Job Satisfaction Improved in 2010

Overall, 85 percent of respondents reported being at least moderately satisfied on the job. This is an improvement over last year's figure of 73 percent. Among the highest-ranked factors influencing job satisfaction are having a competitive salary, respect for the work performed, and the ability to increase one's skill set.

Most Believe Economic Conditions Will Improve for 2011

Over half (56 percent) of respondents indicated that their businesses are either growing slowly or experiencing a period of solid growth. That is a 14-point improvement from last year.

The Global Knowledge/TechRepublic 2011 IT Skills and Salary Survey was conducted online from October 11 to November 19, 2010. It yielded over 12,000 respondents worldwide, with 84 percent coming from North America. Download the complete IT salary survey report.
