Case Study

Blended Learning Program Enables Global Technology Company to Build and Maintain IBM Solutions Expertise

Client

Global Information Technology Company (GITC)

GITC is a global leader of next-generation IT services and solutions. Their mission is to enable superior returns on their clients' technology investments through best-in-class solutions and domain expertise at a global scale. GITC has approximately 74,000 employees and reported revenue of $12.9 billion for fiscal year 2014.

Situation

GITC Needs to Keep Pace with Next-Generation IT Solutions

An IBM Business Partner since 2006, GITC provides targeted IT solutions to help clients reduce cost, improve performance, migrate to cloud computing platforms and modernize systems. Staying up to date on the latest IBM products and platform upgrades is essential for GITC's sales teams. Further, IBM product training is part of the service GITC offers to its clients. GITC also wanted to proactively develop the expertise required to retain their IBM partner status.

Following the launch of IBM's Global Skills Initiative in 2013, GITC sought to partner with a training provider that could address their need for big data, analytics, cloud and enterprise mobility solution education on a global scale. GITC's portfolio is based on several IBM products, including IBM Big Data & Analytics, PureData System, SPSS, Cloud, MobileFirst, Power Systems and System z, as well as on technologies from the world's leading companies. They needed a training program that covered the full suite of IBM products and more.

Solution

Flexible, Globally Delivered Training Refines Team's Expertise

GITC chose Global Knowledge because we could provide the broad portfolio of courses they needed, along with global delivery in flexible formats. Operational excellence and flexibility were key pieces of Global Knowledge's training solution for GITC. Our flexible prepay Freedom Super Saver program enabled GITC to use IBM Market Development Funds to pay for their internal training. We established a worldwide agreement to address pricing structure and to name a worldwide single point of contact at Global Knowledge, greatly simplifying learning program management for GITC.

Results

GITC Maximizes Investments in Leading-Edge Technologies

To date, more than 90 students have been trained in classrooms and virtual classrooms and via self-paced e-learning, developing skills for products from eight IBM brands and facilitating end-user adoption of current IBM technologies. These technologies help GITC serve its clients by building quality mobile applications, streamlining operations with data insights and capitalizing on cloud data storage.

The global solution has helped learners worldwide - primarily in the United States, United Kingdom and India, with plans to expand the program to other countries, including Australia, China, France, Germany, Singapore and United Arab Emirates.

One student in Malaysia who was brand new to mainframe technology said, "Even though this [programming language] is a rare technology, the instructor was very knowledgeable and I will use this [skill] in my day-to-day work."
